Manganese

Manganese is one of the two main causes of hard water, and it is naturally found in soil and rocks. While a certain amount is needed for life to exist, high amounts of it can be a problem.

The concentration of manganese is measured in parts per million (ppm). If you get you water supply from a municipal treatment facility, a manganese level higher than 0.5ppm can leave your water with a metallic taste and leave brown stains in sinks. If you use a private water well for your supply, a manganese level as high as 3ppm can sometimes be seen. When water with levels like this runs through appliances, it will discolor them.

Since it’s natural for manganese to collect in water, we at CIMS Water Solutions recommend having a water softener installed.

If you have a high level of manganese in your water, it will appear discolored straight from the tap. If this is the case in your home, you’ll need a more heavy-duty solution. The experts at Mel's Water/CIMS Water Solutions can help you fit the right filtration system to reduce the amount of manganese in your water. Contact us today to get started.
